PERU, Ind. (AP): An electric utility is planning to spend $2.1 million to build a solar farm in northern Indiana.
 
The Indiana Municipal Power Association says the new solar farm near the Miami County city of Peru will have almost 3,900 panels. The farm is projected to generate one megawatt of electricity at peak capacity, or enough to power about 200 homes.
 

The Kokomo Tribune reports the Miami County Council approved this week a 10-year tax abatement on the project, which is expected to start producing power by next summer.

Indiana Municipal also operates solar farms in Richmond, Rensselaer and Frankton. It is the wholesale power provider for 59 Indiana communities.
