General Motors to lay off 2,000

LORDSTOWN, Ohio (WOWO): Bad news for General Motors employees.

Citing falling demand for cars, General Motors is laying off more than 2,000 workers at assembly plants in Ohio and Michigan in January.

The factories in Lansing, MI and Lordstown, OH will be impacted, according to an AP report. The automaker says it’s shifting investments in production toward SUVs and trucks.

The Fort Wayne GM Assembly plant, which makes trucks under the company’s “GMC Sierra” and “Chevy Silverado” banners, will not be affected.
