WASHINGTON, DC (WOWO) Federal safety regulators are investigating reports that General Motors vehicles equipped with its 6.2-liter L87 V8 engine are failing even after recall repairs were completed.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has opened a new recall query to examine the adequacy of GM’s remedy for a recall issued last year covering nearly 600,000 trucks and SUVs. According to agency documents, the action follows 36 consumer complaints alleging catastrophic engine failures after dealer inspections or repairs intended to prevent those problems.
The original recall applied to certain 2021 through 2024 model-year vehicles, including the Chevy Silverado 1500, GMC Yukon and Cadillac Escalade. NHTSA said the recall addressed manufacturing defects involving connecting rods and crankshafts that could lead to sudden engine seizure.
Under GM’s repair plan, dealers were instructed to inspect the engine. Depending on the results, vehicles either received a full engine replacement or a change to thicker 0W-40 synthetic oil, along with a revised oil cap specifying the new requirement. Federal regulators now say complaints allege failures following both types of repairs, according to the agency’s filing.
NHTSA noted that some drivers reported sudden loss of power at highway speeds, raising concerns about safety risks associated with engine failure while driving. The agency is already conducting a separate engineering analysis into additional L87 engine failures outside the original recall population.
The investigation comes as GM faces a class-action lawsuit over the issue. Court records show a federal judge recently appointed interim counsel in the case, which alleges the recall has caused confusion and may not prevent engine failure.
NHTSA said the new inquiry will focus on whether GM’s remedy adequately addresses the underlying defect and whether further action is required.

I truly feel they should have to go back to the 2007 models we all have had the same issues no one cared same problems same trans same power steering stabilizer mess and I always have had caddy I got the 2007 6.2 sport truck everyone I know has had all same problems no one ever seemed to care I love everything about but them AC issues the engine all messed up and everyone that known me will tell you my vehicle s are well taken care of and I have some problems over and it’s so wrong..the gm and Chevy’s all same unfair doings to us This should been made get ours done also…just unfair I really live my truck I would get another but after all this mess zI will never get a Chevy gm or anything to relate and seems they still trying screw the newer ones also but think we paid lots for ours and we had not just me everyone same B’s and truly they should be made go back and fix all this mess sad part they knew still kept doing you newer younger ones sloppy handling the situation my electrical is literally going get me killed lights always just go out that dang washer fluid like all quit working and going threw bulbs like I change clothes been same since day one good thing I live in gl so while the sc stays messed up changing mess blenders it’s just crazy everyone he the same fuel click click them crazy pressure and valves the 3 u replace boom next week if that the battery always saying charge system the engines leak oil pan and valves oh I forget all these timing u got to do because them vvt way fine I love my truck but them problems they truly should be ashamed and them leaking power steering always having fix that the hubs budging and trust me u can’t tell my has ever been soy in in excellent paint and interior been awesome but I guess they wanted all us to be happy while we having to wait for the wrecker again .but they are beautiful and they are powerful but my goodness should it still be a problem after all the same issues everyone has had since the 2007…do we all deserve a new vehicle and we all should be compensated I still had to fix mine and pay payments so I am truly disappointed because after the 1st few yrs same problems over and over and you folks wanted our hard earned dollars and didn’t do nothing all these yrs they should started our vehicles been recalled and after 4 to 5yrs from my date they should never put or sold any of these until probably taken care of..it’s very disgusting that they have gotten by with it all these yrs and us loyal folks get the rotten eat it deal and then all these new ones same mess How about this if you guys fixed ours from the get go you may been able save money and now you have even made more customers by doing these wrong doings…well I’ve lost so much and everyone I have had any conversations or anything all had all forums we all had same issues so why not just be punished for acting as all is were crazy and I am and most folks I knew that owned any these products were hoping you make recall help us out because they as well as I truly loved everything except all the long wrong underhanded money out of pocket constantly electric crazy mess all the time…well I am going since everyone let us original customers figure all these problems you had known about and then continued to just make more of your customers be in an unfair position we lost all the way around no money no buy hacks no nothing yes I said hacks because what you have done with that mess thicker oil and blah nah you know them people are going to have same issues you truly should be proud of how you guys have truly did some of the most disgusting wrongful acts not to mention not care if we burn up in the vehicle safety lol poor guys couldn’t ever get our air bags right u did recall funny thing they all got same problems repeatedly..I hope all that had hand in this corruption and then continued same more and more to people that expect so much better and loyalty is hard come by…I wish you all have great night o
f rest.. because most of us had take extra jobs keep up the vehicle to disappoint our faith in our beautiful auto makers to do the right thing and truly sad you have done got by with all these years and not care at all…am sorry to all the new ones they have hack up some more to screw you over also… remember God don’t like ugly and hope everyone gets done right because all of us were truly dealt 2 buckets of wrong doings. I hope you can get done right. It’s just so upset to myself and others how it should never herm able to persist and stopped made a bunch major change got another bunch of customers in that only wanted to brag be proud show off our earnings we thought we deserved in our America dreams where loyalty and admit you had issues fix or redesign…but the lazy folks justify they truly got the Americans dreams they only had to keep moving their lips to only decide to continue wrong doings..I truly hope everyone will get what they paid for as should of been proper mechanics designs we thought we were getting maybe ours 1st few years you guys play it off just discover had some problems and fixed so you great folks just decided make us look stupid you benefit the rewards get by with doing all these yrs and for all us true customers that believe were were going be very proud of our vehicles that we truly worked hard and were loyal. Well,sorry this long winded…these folks that kept all these messed up flaws should rest well bet they fat took all our hard working decades of labor bought themselves steaks while we scrape by on trying to pay our groceries we deserved money to eat healthy balanced meals ..nope you ate we kept on trying to fix our comfortable pretty vehicles so we look pretty on side highway trying to make sure take extra shifts jobs to make us look good but upset no one would address and help fix the issues and only to continue the same wrong things ..well folks guess I must forgive you ur probably poor overweight health issues with our money but dang I’m got lots gray hair wrinkles but had no time for eating…so I am same size as I bought it you ate we we being patient for only to be hurt to see how much you truly didn’t care about us back in time when 1st issues were causing so much concern that were dismissed and forgotten just be happy smile u truly have done all these wrong also..does it make you proud to be part of America’s people that had a dreams and stuck by you to only find out we deserved nothing and you were continuing to understand what you did and totally knew and you could smile cheat your loyal true hanging on knew you trying figure out and just all along stringing us and these folks that bought all the same ugly problems they thought that were no issues Well this is pure deceit and bet your parents proud of what you grew up to be…it’s the people like you that has hurt America by not being true to your designs flaws..everyone is human we all can make mistakes the part where you fix it and own up is why you should have to held accountable in criminal court for control you could have fixed and sit back just ignoring the wrongful knowledge you knew did nothing…but plot to continue no intentions of right to consumers…so sad and ugly!
